Do you love to dance?
by Maverick ini love weddings cause, "love is in the air", and you can ask any woman to dance and not get shut down.
when i went to vegas and we hit all the night clubs you could see all the couples sitting there around the dance floor, the women bobbing up and down off their seats and their guys sunk down with their butts glued to the chair.
even though i am not the best dancer, being one of those men willing to "shake that thing" i had a great time.

A Letter from A Witness
by cruzanheart inone of my witness friends in england told a friend of hers out in service about how i'm not going to meetings anymore, what a shame, etc., etc., so this well-meaning little person decided she wanted to write me a letter.
i asked why, and she told me the story of this young man.
remember how i was able to leave the matter of my husband?s relationship with jehovah in his hands?

((Nina)) Wow, what a great letter! I had only read bits and pieces of your story before. Very interesting and well-written. Please let us know (as I'm sure you will) if you receive a reply.

Tonights the night
by SixofNine init's gonna be all right.
well peeps, i went to the kindom hall tonight, not to actually meet with the judicial comittee convened in my honor, but rather just to hand deliver a letter to the chairman of said comittee, telling them that they had "hurt my feelings by choosing to 'judge' me, when they hadn't even really seen me in about five years.
" *snif* also telling them to "lay off, man".. i really didn't know how to handle this situation, which i'd only first heard about 2 days ago.

Well done you! My stomach clenches up just thinking about walking into any KH again, but particularly THAT one. I know the star chamber very well, thank you.
Of course, you know I want to read that letter. At least this should buy you some time until after the wedding.
FOSHLL's been worried about you all week. You wanna hear something funny? About 8:00 last night, she looked at me and said "Tonight's the night." For real... -

Into the mystic (an experience).
by El blanko inthe following i wrote to a friend this morning and doctored slightly for this forum.
can any of you relate to this kind of mystical experience and if you would be kind enough, would you mind me quoting any experiences listed to my friend?
please be aware that the letter uses language to detach me away from the watchtower (thus church, instead of congregation etc).

This is a fascinating thread.
Xena, I loved your experience with your daughter. FOSHLL and I have had many similar experiences, though none so profound as simultaneous baklava :)
FOSHLL likes to chalk each and every one up to coincidence (paternal influence perhaps), but I'm not so quick to discount such moments.
I have two friends who are VERY in touch with their mystical selves and they've had many such experiences, way too many to call them "coincidences."

I also read several books at once - something for every mood.
Right now, I'm reading:
Diary by Chuck Palahniuk (Preston, Survivor is great. Have you read Choke? That's my favorite so far.)
Oblivion by David Foster Wallace
Bushwhacked by Molly Ivins
The Way to Love by Anthony DeMello
The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien
and I traded in my WT/Awake subscriptions six years ago for Vanity Fair and Playboy, so I've always got a magazine when I'm in the mood for something a little lighter.

Preston,
I found myself nodding and smiling in agreement while reading your post. All your picks are dead on.
Somebody has to be Wilco but I can't figure out who. And who's the Flaming Lips? -

Circuit Overseer visits wife.
by Gordy injust to set the scene.. in 1996 i suffered badly from depression (surprise) which led to me in the december of that year being told by my wife, i had to leave the home.
later i discovered this was under the direction of the elders who considered me a "spiritual danger" to the family.
didn't matter that i had made one suicide attempt.

((Gordy)) I'm sorry you haven't seen two of your kids for such a long time. I'm curious - are you still suffering from depression since leaving the religion?

I, too, was a good JW who didn't get kissed until 18 years of age.
My girlfriend and I convinced our parents to let us drive four hours to Iowa for a Stevie Ray Vaughan concert. We ended up hanging out backstage with the opening band. They told us there was a party at their hotel (naive, I know). I remember driving through Dubuque, Iowa with these two guys in my back seat and they pointed to this really nice (for Dubuque) hotel and said, "That's where Stevie's staying."
Unfortunately, the hotel for the Johnny Winter band was a Motel 6. So my first kiss was with the bass player for Johnny Winter in Dubuque, Iowa at a Motel 6. After we kissed, we watched "Butch and Sundance: The Early Years." Didn't get home until four in the morning and my mom has been asking me for 20 years what really happened that night. I keep telling her we got lost.

I Could Care Less.
by Englishman inthe correct expression is i couldn't care less.. the idea is that you are trying to inpart total disinterest in what your opponent is trying to say.
so, you are so disinterested that you say i couldn't care less!
it's impossible for me to care any less because i'm already at maximum non caring.

Myauntfanny,
What does "spit and image" mean? I always thought the phrase was "spitting image," but now that i really think about, that doesn't make sense either.
Here's the one bugs me: when a person says that something has "come up missing" or "turned up missing." If it's turned up, it's not missing.
